Closing the loop.

In collaboration with SEAC sub and Better Factory.

The project aims to achieve two main goals. Firstly, it aims to reduce the environmental impact of SEAC’s fin production by using fewer raw materials and promoting circularity. Secondly, addressing the issue of ocean plastic pollution by reducing plastic waste associated with marine activities, thus preventing it from entering the sea.

To achieve these objectives, NMASA Design partnered with HEALIX, a producer specializing in plastic pellets made from various types of plastic waste. Together with SEAC, they conducted extensive tests on different types of plastics to assess their potential to replace conventional raw plastic pellets, leading to the discovery of an optimal solution.

The result is a revolutionary fin crafted from MR04 PP-plastic, sourced from old marine ropes collected from harbors and the sea. This innovative material not only enhances the circularity and sustainability of SEAC’s production but also empowers SEAC to actively reduce the amount of plastic entering our oceans. In a poetic twist, waste that once despoiled divers’ paradises finds redemption in the form of essential equipment for them.

Results exhibited during the Southern Sweden Design Days 2024 as part of the exhibition “Artifacts for a scuba diving utopia”
